Martlets Defeat KO

After losing the first match in over two years, the girls bounced back today against KO. The singles ladder had everyone move up two spots so freshman Kitty Olson and Veronica Edwards could get some singles in. Meanwhile Co-Captains Westie Strawbridge’24 and Colby Smith ‘24 moved to #1 doubles. Smith and Strawbridge were a bit confused on some points as two who was taking the ball, but they played strong tennis to earn the first team point. Avery Gray ‘26 and Luna Yang ‘26 played #2 doubles today and started with a string of unforced errors and mishits, leaving the match tied 2-2 early on. They rallied and went on to win six of the next seven games. Lucy Morton ‘26 and Virginia Whiting ‘26 played very strong tennis today. In singles Edwards played a girl who was very consistent and precise and had decent pace. Edwards had to be patient and work the court to earn her victory. Olson won her match quickly as did Co-captain Eliza Cabot’24. Lilly Murphy’25 was left to play #1 today and it was a great match with lots of back and forth. After fighting off two match balls at 4-7, Murphy came all the way back to 6-7 before finally losing 6-8 to give KO a point.
